Day Reporting Center
The Forsyth County Day Reporting Center was founded under the North Carolina General
Statute 15A-1340.11 as part of the structured sentencing legislation passed in 1993,
which provided more community based sentencing options.
The Day Reporting Center was established in 1996 and is operated by the Forsyth
County Sheriff's Office. The program is designed to enhance probation and the pre-trial
release program. The FCDRC accepts sentenced offenders (male and female) who receive
an intermediate sanction and selected pre-trial offenders, who are in need of one
or all of the following; substance abuse counseling, (for sentenced offenders only)
employment, education, life skills classes, cognitive behavior intervention classes,
vocational and/or intense monitoring. The target population includes H & I Felons.
The FCDRC Works with the pre-trial release program by providing an enhanced monitoring
element to select inmates released into the pre-trial release program.
While attending the FCDRC, offenders are closely monitored by interacting in a structured
environment that provides offenders access to; drug and alcohol treatment, health
education, vocational and educational training and cognitive behavior classes. Individuals
must account for their time 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Accountability is accomplished
through the use of in person reporting requirements and random field checks.
The FCDRC works in conjunction with the Division of Community Corrections to provide
the highest level of supervision for offenders placed on probation in Forsyth County.
Four probation officers (PPO II) and two surveillance officers are assigned to the
program and only supervise offenders sentenced to the DRC. These officers are assigned
lighter caseloads so that they can focus on the DRC offender. Sentenced offenders
are required to report daily and are placed on a 6:00 p.m. to 6 a.m. curfew. Individuals
found in violation of the rules are terminated from the program and therefore are
in direct violation of their probation sentence. These individuals are placed in
custody and returned to court.
